In connection with a study of the behavior of nitrocyclopropane derivatives with bases Kohler and his students' have postulated the presence of a substituted cyclopropene derivative intermediate between the nitrocyclopropane and the end-product. Later they actually succeeded in isolating a new type of cyclopropene derivative* (I) as the first product of the action of sodium methylate on the nitrocyclopropane (11). This H WZ-NO~C~HI-;~>~'
