12th International Symposium on Microsomes and Drug Oxidations The 12th International Symposium on Microsomes and Drug Oxidations (MDO98) (under the patronage of the Societe Francaise de Pharmacologie and sponsored by Sanofi) will be held July 20-24, 1998, in Montpellier, France. The meeting will focus primarily, but not exclusively, on human xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes and on aspects which are important for cellular and molecular biologists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, enzymologists, clinicians, and pharmaceutical companies. The symposium will be in honor of Professor Urs Meyer in recognition of his contributions to the field of Cytochromes P450 and Pharmacogenetics. The scientific sessions are organized to complement the 4th International Symposium on Cytochrome P450 Biodiversity and Biotechnology that will be held July 12-17, 1998, in Strasbourg. Topics include gene regulation, CYP active site topology, the CYP3A family, mechanisms of drug toxicity, phase II enzymes, pharmacogenetics of CYP and other drug-metabolizing enzymes, in vitro models for drug metabolism and toxicity, transgenic animals to predict drug metabolism, topographical localization of drug-metabolizing enzymes, noninvasive methods for assessing drug metabolism enzymes in man, drug interactions, CYPs, anticancer drugs and gene therapy, activation and disposition of AIDS drugs, drug-metabolizing enzymes and the immune system, ABC transporters and drug disposition, extrahepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes, xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes in animals for food production, Ah-receptor and regulation of drug-metabolizing enzymes, the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors, endogenous substrates of drug-metabolizing enzymes, drug-metabolizing enzymes in lymphocytes, and impact of diseases on detoxication. These sessions will focus on non-mammalian species including bacteria, fungi, plants, insects, fish, and birds. Poster presentation sessions are scheduled for July 21, 22, and 24.
