EB31,4-Butanediol Reactions speak louder than words
Fabric, coated with tough, flexible 1,4-BUTANEDIOL polyurethane film, sheds water but lets air through. Intermediate...solvent...crosslinker...chain extender...plasticizer GAF's 1,4-BUTANEDIOL acts and reacts in many ways to reward the imagination and ingenuity of the creative chemist. 1,4-BUTANEDIOL is an unusually versatile glycol because, in addition to forming open-chain derivatives through the reactions typical of dihydric primary alcohols, it also yields a variety of cyclic products which have great promise as industrial materials. Polyurethanes prepared from 1,4-BUTANEDIOL polyesters are exceptional in their high tensile strength, tear resistance, hardness, stability, flexibility, and low water absorption. Esterified with suitable monobasic acids, 1,4-BUTANEDIOL yields effective plasticizers for thermoplastic polymers. With certain dibasic acids, it produces plasticizers for PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or vinyl chloride-vinyl ester copolymers that are outstanding because of the resultant low cold crack, low volatility and ease of incorporation. Other 1,4-BUTANEDIOL polyesters offer outstanding potential as fibers, plastics, finishes, and plasticizers. Perhaps you have a processing problem that 1,4-BUTANEDIOL could solve or a product in mind that it could improve. For full technical information, write GAF today.
