1964 Reviews of Fundamental Developments in Analysis 1 6 ANNUAL ~ ~ REVIEW ISSUE. The policy of publishing applications reviews and fundamental reviews on an alternate year basis is still being followed. Objective of this review is to present the significant developments in major areas of fundamental research in analytical chemistry during the past two years. As the interest of analytical chemists broadens, so has the scope of the reviews. This year, we have a total of 39 reviews with 59 authors and coauthors. This is the first year that the Buyers’ Guide, normally a part of the review issue, will be published separately. The large number of pages required by the review issue necessitated this move. Developments in certain areas have led to some changes over the 1962 review issue. The term electrochromatography has been dropped in favor of the more usual term, electrophoresis. The coverage of electrochemistry has been expanded to include a review on electrochemical relaxation techniques. The three separate reviews : emission spectrometry, absorption flame photometry, and emission flame photometry have been included in the general title, emission spectrometry with subsections on atomic absorption spectrometry, and flame photometry. Two special reviews reflect the broadening interests of analytical chemists. They are: Light Scattering which covers the developments in this field from 1956 through 1963; and Kinetic Aspects of Analytical Chemistry which includes recent developments in this field through 1963, with emphasis on the last few years. The editors believe that this review issue will be helpful to our subscribers in gaining an overall idea of the many significant developments in fundamental areas of analytical chemistry. HIS IS THE
