WHAT CHEMISTS DO The ACS “What Chemists Do” videos profile chemists and showcase the rich diversity of careers in the scientific profession. The aim of the videos is to inspire those interested in pursuing chemistry or young chemists, and at the same time increase the visibility of industry chemists. In about three minutes, you get to learn what a formulation scientist from Dow does, or a small molecule discovery chemist at Genentech, or why a nanoparticle chemist is so passionate about solving problems and his advice to aspiring scientists. You can find the videos on YouTube. Check back often for more profile features at https://goo.gl/kYE0Y7. If you’re interested in participating in the program by sharing your story, please email at [email protected].

ACS Office of Public Affairs The ACS Office of Public Affairs (OPA) communicates chemistry’s value to the world. OPA emphasizes how chemistry is improving people’s lives by addressing some of the largest challenges facing society today— developing alternative energy sources, finding new medicines to cure and treat diseases, assuring safe and nutritious food and water, and ensuring a clean and sustainable environment. Through its public policy, member advocacy, and communications programs, ACS is recognized as a credible and respected source of information and expertise by the media, legislators, and other policymakers. Visit acs.org/advocacy, acs.org/act4chemistry, acs.org/chemistryambassadors and acs.org/PressPac, and acs.org/news to see some of the many ways OPA leads and engages with members to advocate for chemistry and communicate its impact.

Office of International Activities The ACS Office of International Activities (OIA) is a team of professionals with the global network and skillset to provide insights, resources, and opportunities to advance the international interests and priorities of ACS. OIA services the ACS Committee on International Activities by working with ACS governance and other ACS units to build global networks for members that enable the broader chemistry community to engage in international research and education, targeting areas where chemistry provides solutions to global challenges. As a central location for global activities, OIA cultivates, evaluates, and works to resource the current and envisioned ACS landscape regarding global chemical science, engineering, and educational engagements. By working directly with the Society’s international chapters and alliance partners, OIA organizes international conferences, professional exchanges, and research collaboration programs. OIA also administers the Society’s Board-approved Science and Human Rights activities and the ACS International Center (global.acs.org), a curated, web-based information
