50-year members number 192 "It has been a real pleasure to watch the amazing development of the old semimonthly News Edition into the weekly Chemical and Engineering News and also to watch the wonderful development of the Society to the point it now occupies." These are the words of Dr. Robert P. Fischelis, managing editor of the News Edition of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry from 1923 through 1927, and one of the Society's 192 members who are celebrating 50 years of ACS membership this year. Also included in the list of members who joined the Society in 1917 are Dr. Mary Elvira Weeks, who completed "A History of the American Chemical Society—Seventy-Five Eventful Years" upon the death of Dr. Charles Albert Browne, original author of the book, and Dr. Melvin C. Mellon, who won the Fisher Award in Analytical Chemistry. All of the 190 living members who have reached the half-century milestone will receive certificates, most of them during special ceremonies arranged by their local sections. Posthumous awards have been made to the widow of Dr. St. Elmo Brady and the family of Dr. Rudolf W. Ruprecht. The 192 members are listed by name, present or former positions and affiliation, and present residence. Roscoe C.
