7 tough questions you should ask about your insurance coverage They're all part of a much bigger question: How do I know if my insurance protection is really adequate? Although you're prob ably covered by one or more employee group plans or individual policies, rarely are these plans designed and coordinated to pro vide the full coverage you need. That's why the ACS Insurance Trust was established in 1966 to provide ACS Members with broad insurance protection at reasonable cost to supplement their existing plans. We urge you to ask the following 7 questions in evaluating your present coverage. Our answers should con vince you that the ACS Insurance Program makes sense for you —just as it has for thousands of other ACS Members.

1 What different kinds of personal insurance cov erage do I have?

6 How does my employment status affect eligibil ity for my life insurance plan? How we'd answer: Your employment (or unemployment) status has absolutely no effect on your eligibility for our basic life and high limit ad&d insurance plans. In fact, subject to certain age limitations, coverage under any ACS plan remains in effect so long as you are an ACS Member and pay your premiums. (This does not apply during special enrollment periods when a mem ber work requirement is substituted for a health statement.)

7 Am I covered for loss of income due to disability and are the benefits offset by Workmen's Compen sation and Social Security?

How we'd answer: The American Chemical Society's program provides coverage under 3 separate plans. First, a basic life insurance plan. Second, a high limit accidental death and dis memberment insurance plan. (Both of these are underwritten by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company.) And third, a disability income plan (underwritten by The Life Insurance Com pany of North America).

How we'd answer: The ACS disability income plan protects you from loss of income due to disability arising from sickness or accident. It is not offset by any benefits you may receive from Social Security or Workmen's Compensation. And you may pur chase insurance which would pay you 2/3 of your regular in come up to $1,000 a month.

2 How comprehensive is my basic life insurance plan?

Of course, there's much more to know about the ACS Insurance Program. Some pertinent facts: # More than 15,000 ACS Members, their spouses and eligible children participate in the program and are protected by about $300 million of insurance. # Benefits in excess of $5 million have been paid to ACS families. # Although you must be a resident of the U.S. or Canada to enroll, coverage of all plans is effective worldwide. # C o v e r a g e is completely portable (even for our disability in come plan). So if you change jobs, you can take this insur ance with you.

How we'd answer: The American Chemical Society's basic life insurance plan provides $15,000 basic life insurance and $15,000 accidental loss of life, limb or sight insurance—all for one low premium. Optional coverages include dependent life insurance, $25-a-day hospital indemnity insurance, and $10,000 supplemental life insurance (to be increased to $15,000 at no increase in cost with an additional $15,000 unit available effec tive April 1, 1974).

3 What is the cost-per-thousand on my life insur ance premiums? How we'd answer: Under the ACS plan, benefits have increased 50% since the plan's inauguration in 1966—with no increase in premium! The cost of life insurance has also been further re duced through a 10% premium credit —in effect since April 1, 1972. Obviously, the cost-per-thousand varies with your age. But we don't know of any other plan that matches the low rates of the ACS plan for the same coverage.

4 Is there a "waiver of premium" feature and, if so, what does it mean to me? How we'd answer: In the case of the ACS program, not only can you qualify forwaiver of premium, but while totally disabled you can request that your death benefit be paid during the period of total disability —in five equal, annual installments (payable after two years of total disability).
