A Big Year Ahead for Nano in 2018

nanoparticle morphologies and to understand reaction mechanisms that have applications in fields ranging from catalysis to medicine.8,9 We will be holding our 2018 award lectures in the Americas for the first time, at the fall ACS meeting in Boston, tied to the theme and activities described above. Please stay tuned for the call for nominations, to be issued early next year, both for the nomination window and for the expansion of our nomination procedures.

n addition to publishing top work in nanoscience and nanotechnology from around the world, our goals for ACS Nano include: accelerating advances in the field by identifying and elaborating opportunities;1 leveraging nanoscience and nanotechnology strategies, techniques, and methods to impact other fields;2,3 being a public face for our fields; and linking together global science, engineering, and medicine.4,5 We have a number of strategies for achieving these goals and more. Among them is having our editors using our positions as active researchers to connect with you (and each other) around the world. This year, between our editors, we gave hundreds of talks in more than 35 countries, at universities, research institutions, and conferences, as well as to the public. We see the effects of our personal interactions during these visits in new submissions and our expanding readership. In the next year and beyond, we will have a sustained effort to engage even more at a number of special events.

Our goals for ACS Nano include: accelerating advances in the field by identifying and elaborating opportunities; leveraging nanoscience and nanotechnology strategies, techniques, and methods to impact other fields; being a public face for our fields; and linking together global science, engineering, and medicine. We helped to organize a four-continent chemistry meeting next month, the Atlantic Basin Conference on Chemistry, ABCChem,6 with many American Chemical Society (ACS) journal editors participating. Together, we are organizing the fall 2018 American Chemical Society meeting in Boston, Massachusetts around the theme of “Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, and Beyond.”7 Many of our editors, advisors, and authors are organizing special symposia related to the theme of this ACS meeting, looking at where nanoscience and nanotechnology can impact other fields, such as atmospheric science and climate change, neuroscience, and tissue engineering. We look forward to seeing you there and elsewhere in our and your travels. Now and in the future, we welcome your ideas and efforts on how to make the world a smaller, more connected place through science. We wish you a happy, safe, and productive 2018, in your worlds large and small!

ANNOUNCEMENTS We are delighted to welcome Prof. Jill Millstone of the chemistry faculty at the University of Pittsburgh as our newest Associate Editor. Prof. Millstone has been an extremely active ACS Nano author and advisor, since even before she joined our editorial advisory board. In her research, Prof. Millstone works on controlling nanoparticle surface architectures synthetically in order to develop © 2017 American Chemical Society
