A Call to the Early Career Nanoscience Community: Now Accepting Nominations for the Nano Letters Early Career Advisory Board ur field of nanoscience is rapidly developing as a discipline, in no small measure because of the enthusiasm, skill, and innovative spirit of you, our early career colleagues: graduate students, postdoctoral researchers (postdocs), and those who are just starting careers in academia, national laboratories, and industry. Our editorial team recognizes how important you are to our future, and we want to have a way to share with you our thoughts, procedures, and plans for stewarding Nano Letters. We are launching a new mechanism for us to learn more about your thoughts and visions. We would like to know more about your experiences as authors and reviewers, and your ideas and concerns on the evolving world of scientific publication. We are establishing an Early Career Advisory Board for this purpose. We first experimented with this idea at the Spring Materials Research Society meeting, where we established an initial core group for the Board. You can see their names and affiliations below.

O

Successful candidates will participate in web-based discussions with the Editors of Nano Letters, offering their perspectives on the experiences of early career scientists on all aspects of the journal. We will be asking new board members to devote about an hour per week to the journal. Nominations, including CV, publication list, and letter(s) of recommendation should be sent electronically to Managing Editor, Dr. Heather Tierney ([email protected]) by October 15th, 2015. Results will be announced by December 2015. We are very excited about this new way of interacting with our early career colleagues from whom we have so much to learn and for whom we have so many hopes. We look forward to receiving your nominations.

Here is what we are looking for: 1. Authorship in Nano Letters of papers that show the promise of the candidate to contribute to nanoscience; 2. Open to graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty in their first three years as an Assistant Professor or similar position in industry or national laboratories; 3. We are seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds and from around the world; 4. We are seeking candidates from industry, start-ups and national laboratories, as well as from academia; 5. We are seeking candidates who are good at using social media and who are interested in applying those skills to help Nano Letters; 6. We envision two-year terms for members of this Board. © 2015 American Chemical Society
