A Convenient Holder for Suction Filtration Flasks Filtration flasks and traps used for water aspiration are notoriously prone to tipping unless held down in some manner. Pilot holes for mounting the clamps are drilled along a line bisecting the block in the long dimension at distances of 3% in. from each end. Countersinking is necessary to accommodate a small flange on the bottom of the clamp. The blocks are sanded, primed, coated with two coats of enamel, and the clamps are then attached by means of Phillips-head screws. These flask holders have proved very popular with students and faculty alike. One drawback is the cost of the clamps ($13.25 each).
