A Convenient Vessel for Elevated Pressure Reactions In our laboratory we have found it necessary to carry out reactions requiring (1) an inert container, (2) several atmospheric pressures and (3) ability of adding reagents or removing aliquots during the reaction. The apparatus shown below is very convenient for such applications.

Inert Container. ' Obtained from Alltech Associates, #6508. " Obtained +om Fischer & Paner. Co.: #!lo-013 Viton A o-rings. and #110007 3 oz, aerosol compatibility vessel, including collar and collet. "' Dimensions hom Fisher 8 Porter, #llO-957 metal needie value adapter.

Size 22 needles work best for puncturing the inert disk to add reagent or remove aliquots for monitoring the reaction. The pressure bottle is generally heated by a n oil bath. Pressure versus temperature curves were obtained by use of a pressure gauge fit to the # 110-957metal needle value adapter. One aspect of the construction which is critical is the thread size of the Teflon pieces. If these are significantly smaller than indicated, leakage will occur.
