Schools Should Do Mare than Teach. Schools should do more than train memories and teach facts, declared Dr. Rachel S. Yarros a t the autumn meeting of the American Social Hygiene Association in Louisville, Ky. Our opportunities for recreation are limitless, so it is up t o the schools and homes t o train children t o take advantage of such of these as are healthy and desirable. The schools must do their share in cultivating love of beauty in literature, music and other arts. The home cannot provide one type of amusement for the parents and another for the children. I n homes where parents find recreation and enjoyment in good hooks, music, and artistic drama, the children will grow up with a taste for the same thing. The community, in turn, has a responsibility t o fulfil in providing proper opportunities for recreation and this, according t o Dr. Yarros, means more than playgrounds and municipal swimming pools. "Every community large or small should provide or subsidize some form of music, popular lectures, little theaters, community entertainments, as well as ample facilities for physical exercises," he said. This competition t o low-grade movies, cabarets, and dance halls may seem a costly undertaking, but it will prove an economical way t o prevent vice, crime, and unhappiness.-Science Service
