The first edition of A Guide to Classroom Instruction for Adjunct Faculty was a concise (45 page) introduction to college-level teaching (1) that was reviewed in this Journal (2). It was designed primarily for the many adjunct and part-time faculty who are an increasing part of the post-secondary teaching force, but was an excellent resource for all faculty. This reorganized and expanded second edition is an even better introduction to teaching. The principal changes include much more material on assessment and evaluation (an entire chapter is devoted to this topic), an expanded discussion of important teaching techniques plus a new section on team learning methods, and more attention to technology in the classroom, especially computer technology that has become more available since the previous edition. There are now ten classroom case studies and the case discussions are longer and more detailed. A page of excellent references has been added. Every chemistry department that uses adjunct faculty should have some copies of this guide around to give to new instructors. It is short enough that it can be read in an hour or two but provides a solid foundation for a teaching career. Literature Cited 1. Reed, J. H.
