A little Santocel® solves a lot of problems

FLATTING. In lacquers, varnishes, and pigmented coatings, Santocel 62 flats more, for less; gives improved cost/performance over competitive materials. It cuts processing time—to as little as one hour grind on the pebble mill—and is equally efficient in high-speed dispersion equipment. Santocel has no effect on film hardness, adhesion, or clarity. THICKENING. Thickened with Santocel Z, polyester and epoxy resin formulations can be laid up without sagging, yet they flow freely and uniformly when subjected to molding pressure. The thixotropic and thickening abilities of Santocel also work well in PVC plastisols and organosols, in caulking and adhesive compounds, and in grease. In p h a r m a c e u t i c a l s , Santocel Z thickens coatings for faster processing, more uniform results. As a thickener for vitamin oil and similar products for encapsulation, Santocel Z promotes easy loading, and the thickened oil shows less tendency to leak out. Santocel is effective in water systems, too. It thickens gel paints to eliminate drips and sags, maintain uniform pigment suspension, and prevent flooding. It is used to thicken printing inks for high viscosity without stringiness. FLOW CONDITIONING. Foods, pharmaceutical powders, animal feeds, aerosol dispensed powders—virtually any material that presents a caking p r o b l e m -

can be kept free flowing with small amounts of Santocel. TABLETTING AID. By keeping pharmaceutical powders free flowing, Santocel Z helps maintain uniformity in the mixture, improves die fill and prevents sticking. SUSPENDING AND DISPERSING. Santocel 62 improves pigmented films by acting as a dispersant on the pigment. Small amounts of Santocel keep finely divided solids in suspension such as those in calamine-type products. RUBBER C O M P O U N D I N G . Small amounts of Santocel in silicone rubber improve tensile strength, hardness, and elongation properties. Low electrolyte content of some grades make them ideally suited for electrical applications.

DIAZO PAPER. Santocel Z improves the contrast properties of diazo paper. It may be applied as a "precoat" either alone as an aqueous dispersion, or in combination with a binder such as casein or polyvinyl acetate. Versatile Santocel's product-modifying capabilities stem from the remarkable porosity of the minute particles and the enormous surface area of the material—as high as 300 square meters per gram. Santocel is available in eight different grades, varying in agglomerate size range and surface area. Santocel is white in color, although transparent in vehicles.
