much calculating capability in a small portable unit. The programmable calculator provides both an invaluable aid and a challenge to develop new, useful, simplified programs. One of my students, Bruce D. Marquardt, has designed an interesting program that we felt other introductory-level chemistry students and their teachers might like to use. This program is designed for the magnetic-card-reading capabilities of the Texas Instruments TI-59 and will allow you to: Display atomic weights after entering the atomic number. Calculate and display molecular weights after sequentially entering theatomicnumber and number of units present for each element in the molecule. Calculate and display any other combination of atomic weights such as formula weights, complex ion weights, organic fragment weights. The program is designed in two loops, one used for loading atomic weinhts and the other for retrieval. Loaded data is protected t k m acridrntal change and .vet any updated weight informntim can he but into the system t.asily. If so desired, resultingvalues canbe delivered as hard copy using compatible printers. If you would like a copy of this program, together with all necessary user information to run this program successfully, please send your request to Lucy T. Pryde a t the address given above.
