A general and effective procedure is presented for the establishment of a practical time-suboptimal control policy for nonlinear systems. The control policy is feedback in nature and can be applied to systems in presence of noise. The method is illustrated and tested with two nonlinear systems.

In optimal control theory the time-optimal control problem has received a considerable amount of attention recently. The problem may be formulated as follows. Consider a system which may be represented by a vector differential equation
