A Remote Pipeting Device A safe, convenient, and inexpensive remote pipeting device for l-ml disposable pipets can be constructed from 3.0-ml (or smaller) disposable syringes. The needle is removed from the syringe and the coupling between the syringe and the pipet is effected by modifying the plastic needle guard (see illustration). The syringe-to-pipet coupler is made

by cutting the closed end ot thr plastir n ~ e d l ew a r d a v a y ~n such a rnanncr rhnt the p a r d will fit tightly over the "Luer" taper joint of the syringe. The pipet can t h e n he inserted into the conical opening of the plastic needle guard. Filling and emptying the pipet is achieved b>, manipulating the piungw 01 t h e svringe with the thumb and farefinaer. The device has been used routinely for several years in our laboratory in metabolic radiotracer studies with microorganisms. Dwight E. Talburt Dale A. Johnson
