A Rotating Tubular Reactor

gas in a tubular reactor, it is useful to impart a rotating motion to the reaction chamber. This can be done conveniently by means of the combination gas inlet and drive assembly usually available for the purpose of rotary evaporation under reduced pressure. A typical experimental arrangement is shown in the photograph; the passage of gaseous reactant is from right to left through the length of the tube. One end of the large bore combustion tube mas necked-down somewhat and joined to the standard taper joint a t the end of the drive unit by means of heavy rubber tubing. Large tubes can be held, as demonstrated in the photograph, by a pair of rotating supports such as used by glassblowers.
