A Simple, Inexpensive Shaking Apparatus lleeently we had a need for s. simple, inexpensive shaking apparatus. Since the shaker was i~eededt.xthel. quickly and there was no moncy available a t the time for the pnrchwe of n cummerrial model, it was decided to build a simple shaker that could he used a t room temperature. The shaker (left) was ccnlstrwted from materials fotmd armold t,he st,ockroum and rhonld be generally availlthle. The base was made from a heavy piece of chipboard which had been wed in shipping a piore of equipmellt. A piece of a/,-im plywwd would serve as well. The rhskor plntfrxm was simply x piece of '/a-in. p~.essedwoad 12 in. sqrta1.e with a hole drilled in the center to take the &wing rod. The rod waq made from R piere of '/,-ill. col&~dledsteel and hent wit,h n small nfi'ret t u give a rirrltlnr motion to the platform. Short pierus (abor~t'/. in.) of '/,-in. 0.d. copper tubing wew hdted near the mrnew of the platform and the haye.
