A Simple Splash Arrestor I have found the simple splnsh arrestor shown in the figure to be superior to and much cheaper than commercially available models. The geometry illustrated is the best of many tested. For example, a section of test tube shorter than 3 in. fails to limit lateral flow of water and an umbrella-shaped discharge results; a 90' glass bend is not a s effective as a 180" bend because the former creates s. vortex flow and also gives rise to a spreading discharge. In addition, sections of Light aluminum tubing are more easily cut than Pyrex test tubes, and are more durable than glass.
