Folks in Llangefni, Wales think John Roberts is a man who makes a difference. John thinks he's simply someone who can be counted on. John's shift schedule at Eastman's Peboc Division gave him time to volunteer with the local fire brigade, which has made a difference—first, to his community. Then to his company, since he leads the fire team inside the Eastman plant. And then, to hundreds of children living in desperate conditions far from the green, peaceful Welsh countryside. John and the North Wales Fire Brigade's initiative to help orphans in Romania raised £ 2 7 0 0 for building supplies with help from co-workers and matching donations. Then John and the other firefighters went to Bucharest to lend a hand.
a WORLD οf difference Arriving at Orphanage Number 6, they found the need greater than they had imagined. The children's quarters were in shambles. The volunteers set to work repairing roois, raising new walls, wallpapering, painting, installing new carpets. John returned home, thinking he had done all he could. Until he began getting the children's letters and photos— so touching, he found them unforgettable. He now regularly fund-raises on behalf of Romanian children and plans to return to rebuild the orphanage kitchen. John hoped to make a difference in the lives of the children who live a world away—but he hadn't counted on the difference they would make in his life.
