HIGHLIGHTS
The Society's 165th local section was chartered by the Council at the ACS national meeting in Philadelphia last month. To be known as the South Plains Section, it will encompass 18 counties in western Texas and one in eastern New Mexico. Headquarters for the new section will be in Lubbock, Tex.
The name of the Division of Water and Waste Chemistry has been changed to the Division of Water, Air, and Waste Chemistry. The Council approved the change at the request of division members "to provide recognition of the activity of the Air Pollution Committee within our division structure."
The Council voted to eliminate Bylaw VI, Sec. 5,4, which gives the Society first right to publish papers presented at major ACS meetings. Deletion of the bylaw is subject to confirmation by the Board of Directors.
Four new student affiliate chapters were chartered by the Council at its meeting last month, and the approval of 10 other chapters by ad interim action of the Council Policy Committee was confirmed.
