EMPLOYMENT SERVICES The ACS Department of Career Services will operate a National Employment Clearing House (NECH) in conjunction with the 211th National Meeting in Hall F of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center from Sunday, March 24, to Thursday, March 28. NECH offers employers and candidates the opportunity to conduct job interviews on-site during the course of the meeting. This NECH will feature the premiere of NECHworks, a computerized program designed to assist both candidates and employers in quickly searching the files for potential interviews. NECHworks will be fully operational as of 1 PM Sunday with the files of all pre-registered candidates and employers. All on-site registrants will be added to the data base as they register. NECH hours of operation are: Sunday, March 24,1 PM - 7 PM; Monday, March 25 - Wednesday, March 27,8 AM - 6 PM; and Thursday, March 28,8 AM - 1 PM. Interviewing will conclude at 5 PM Monday through Wednesday and at 1 PM on Thursday.

Professional Development Workshops and Programs The following programs require pre-registration by March 11,1996: Career Transitioning and Effective Job Searching (For Experienced Chemists), Sunday, March 24,1996, 8 AM to 12 Noon. This workshop is primarily for experienced chemists seeking new employment or making a career transition. Major components of changing careers and finding a job are presented in this four-hour workshop: the transitioning process, career skills and values clarification, r6sum6 preparation, and networking and interviewing skills. Participants are asked to bring a hard copy (and a transparency if possible) of your r6sum6. Fee: $25. Effective Job Searching (For Graduate Students & Younger Chemists), Monday, March 25,1996, 8 AM to Noon. This workshop is primarily for graduate Students and VQUnger chemists seeking employment. Major components of finding a job are presented in this four-hour workshop: career skills and values clarification, targeting the market, r6sum6 preparation, networking, communication and interviewing skills, and making a decision. It is recommended that you bring a hard copy of your resume. Fee: $25. The following programs do not require pre-registration. Participants in the Mock Interviews and R6sum6 Reviews may sign up for individual appointments at each program location. Mock Interview Sessions, Sunday, March 24, Student Affiliates only (undergraduates), 1 to 7 PM; and Monday, March 25, through Wednesday, March 27, all members, 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Sign-up (first come, first served) begins on Sunday, March 24,12 Noon. Sessions give the chemist an opportunity to videotape a practice interview and receive immediate feedback on how to improve interviewing skills. Bring a copy of your r6sum6. The process takes about 45 minutes. R6sum6 Review and Career Assistance, Sunday, March 24,1 to 7 PM, and Monday, March 25, through Wednesday, March 27, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Sign-up (first come, first served) begins Sunday, March 24. This program provides individual half-hour appointments with a career consultant for the purpose of reviewing your r6sum6 and discussing your career options. Bring a copy of your resume. Recruiters Panel, Monday, March 25,1:30 to 3 PM. Representatives from four businesses (specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, environmental, and analytical labs) will discuss employment trends and recruitment and hiring practices of chemists. Interviewing Q&A Sessions, Monday, March 25, through Wednesday, March 27. These interactive, 30-minute sessions will be offered several times in the Career Resources Library area at the National Employment Clearing House (NECH). Staff members from the Department of Career Services will be present to offer observations and answer questions on the interview process. Session times will be posted in the NECH registration area and in the Career Resources Library. The following program is cosponsored with the Society Committee on Education: How to Jump Start Your Career (cosponsored with the Society Committee on Education), Tuesday, March 26, 2:30 to 4:30 PM. This workshop will provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to assess their own values system and communication styles, which are important insights for career development. Information on job market trends, career patterns, and organizational dynamics will be presented. Pre-registration is required. Call the Student Affiliates Program at (202) 872-4480. For more information on specific locations of all workshops and programs, see the final meeting program. If you have questions, call ACS Career Services at (800) 227-5558.
