ACS N E W S Ziegler Chairs Auburn D r . Paul F . Ziegler, associate professor of chemistry at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, is the new chairman of the Auburn Section for 1959-60. I n addition, Dr. Ziegler was section editor of t h e Southern Chemist. Other officers are Dr. Marshall Baker, chairman-elect; Dr. Edwin O. Price, secretary; and Dr. Glenn A. Sehrader, treasurer. All are members of the chemistry faculty at Alabama Polytechnic Institute.

Lake Superior Elects D r . Francis J. Glick, assistant professor of chemistry at University of _ Minnesota, is chairr , man of the Lake Superior Section of the A C S for 1 9 5 9 60. H e has served the section as chairman of the membership committee in 1956, of the hospitality committee F. J. Glick in 1958, and of the nominating committee in 1938. Other new officers of the section: Dr. Francis B. Moore of University of Minnesota, chairman-elect; and John E . Cadotte of Wood Conversion, secretary-treasurer.

the division's present title sounds too pedantic and academic p r o m p t e d the Division of Colloid Chemistry to select a n e w name. Members of the Division of Paint, Plastics, and Printing Inks decided that their division's title is too cumbersome, does not clearly show the principle concern of the division. At meetings in Atlantic City, both divisions voted approval of the changes. The new titles will become official after approval by t h e ACS Council next spring.

Akron Honors Students T h e Akron Section of the ACS presented its annual awards to outstanding area high school and college chemistry

students. Winners of a competitive chemistry examination w e r e Richard \V. Kline of Western Reserve Academy, Eugene J. Mark of K e n t State High, and Robert E . Rottmayer of H o b a n Pligh. T h e y received $100, $50, and S 25 U . S . Savings Bonds, respectively. Honorable mention went to G e o r g e M. Hutfilz a n d Philip E. Miller of Cuyahoga Falls H i g h a n d Stephen E . Griffiths of Western Reserve A c a d e m y .

Resignation Reminder It is hoped that resignations at the end of 1959 will he feic. Hotvever, situations arise which make it necessary to discontinue membership. If that decision is inescapable9 action should be taken before Dec. SI. Simply to ignore the Nov. 1 bill is not adequate. Resignations should be sent to ACS headquarters, not to the local sections.

Divisions Change Name T w o divisions of t h e American Chemical Society have v o t e d to change their names. T h e Division of Colloid Chemistry wants to b e known as the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry. The Division of Paint, Plastics, and Printing Inks plans to change its name to the Division of Organic Coatings and Plastics Chemistry.
