- Co-organization with Transilvania University of Brasov of The Third International Conference on Analytical and Nanoanalytical Methods for Biomedical and Environmental Sciences, “ICANMBES 2014”, June 13th – 15th, 2014, Brasov, Romania. - Awards given to PhD students and postdocs at the conferences mentioned above. - The two awards for senior chemists: George-Emil Baiulescu Award was given in Targoviste Conference to Prof Gary M. Hieftje (University of Indiana, USA), and Maria Brezeanu Award was given in Targoviste Conference to Prof Marius Andruh (University Of Bucharest, Romania.) - Marinda Wu, Immediate Past President of ACS visited Institute Petru Poni, Jassy, and University of Bacau, and presented lectures.

ACTIVITIES HELD DURING THE YEAR: Event – Overview nd

2 International Conference on Analytical Chemistry. Analytical Chemistry for a Better Life (ROICAC’2014)
Brief Description*
The meeting was organized by Romanian Society of Chemistry, Ministery of National Education, Eurachem – Romania, University of Valahia, Targoviste, National Institute of Research for Electrochemistry and Condensed Matter in cooperation with DAC EuCheMS and International Romanian Chapter of American Chemical Society. Dr Marinda Li Wu – the Immediate Past ACS President was participating to the meeting. Topics included in the final program: Biomedical Analysis, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Advanced Materials Analysis, Environmental Analysis, Food Analysis, Validation and Chemometrics. There were presented: 9 plenary lectures, 10 keynote lectures, 54 oral presentations, and 70 poster presentations. In total 143 invited and accepted presentations from Romania, Denmark, USA, Germany, Turkey, UK, Cyprus, Belgium, France, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, China. A special session for young analytical chemists: “ACS Network of Young Chemists” was organized with the support of American Chemical Society – a grant was obtained from the International Romanian Chapter of ACS for prizes awarded for oral and poster presentations. The prize winners were: for oral presentations: Bogdan Calenic (Romania), Ionela Raluca Comnea-Stancu (Romania), Ramona Georgescu (Romania), Sevinc Kurbanoglu (Turkey), and for poster presentations: Mehmet Gumustas (Turkey). A special award of the ACS Romanian International Chapter for an ACS student member was awarded for the poster presentation to Iuliana Moldoveanu. ACS International Romanian Chapter offered three poster prizes as free registration to the next edition of the conference to three students: Ramona Georgescu (Romania), Nicoleta-Benonica Diaconu (Romania), and Ioana Raluca Bunghez (Romania).

Brief Description*
The meeting was organized by Transilvania University of Brasov. Topics included in the final program: Nanomaterials for Biomedical Analysis, Special sessions on biosensors. There were presented: plenary lectures, keynote lectures, oral presentations, and poster presentations. In total 80 invited and accepted presentations from Romania, Portugal, USA, Germany, Belgium, France. Three PhD students were awarded from ACS Chapter with prizes for the best poster presentation.

Three PhD students were awarded with the Best Poster Award by Romanian ACS International Chapter. They were invited to ROICAC’2014 to give the Young Chemist Lecture.

OTHER (including press coverage, if applicable): Interviews were recorded by National Radio Romania Cultural with the occasion of ROICAC’2014. The chemists participating in the interviews were: Marinda Wu, Raluca-Ioana Stefan-van Staden, Gary M. Hieftje, Marius Andruh (The President of the Chemistry Section of the Romanian Academy).
Romanian chemists established in USA helped with three students ACS fees through ACS member e-gift program.

PROJECTED ACTIVITIES FOR 2015 Co-organization of conferences, seminars and workshops. Three prizes for organic, polymer and physical chemistry will be awarded this year for exceptional achievements. At the moment is still the interim officers’ committee, and since the chapter is established well with good activities, it will be good that in November-December to hold the first elections, and have the first elected committee in January 2016. A committee for the awards will be established the latest in December 2015.
