Announcements Cytochrome P450 Joint Symposium: Structure, Function, Regulation, and Genetics The International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics and the Americai Society for Biochernistry a d Molecular Biology are sponsoring a symposium May 21 and 22, 1994, in Washington, DC, to recognize the scientific contributions of Dr. Ronald W. Estabrook. The scientific sessions will feature plenary lectures by major contributors to our understanding of the structure, function, regulation, and genetics of cytochromes P450. For more information, contact: Dr. Bettie Sue Masters, Department of Biochemistry, University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio, TX 78284-7760 (Tel: 210-567-6627; FAX: 210-5676984).

European ISSX Workshop: Toxicology of Industrial Compounds The 1994 European ISSX Workshop will be held June 12-15, 1994, in Schuluchsee, Germany. Representatives from industry, academia, research institutes, and regulatory authorities will be brought together to discuss the use and significanceof experimental toxicology in the safety assessment of industrial chemicals. Plenary lectures will review the major general topics of toxicokinetics, metabolism, mechanisms of toxicity, occupational safety, and regulation with respect to industrial chemicals. Mechanistic aspecb of toxicity as well as the toxicology of selected classes of industrial chemicals will be the subject of parallel afternoon sessions. Poster presentations and oral poster communications as well as a round table discussion on controversial mechanistic and regulatory issues in the safety assessment of industrial chemicals will round off this event. Participation will be limited. For further information please contact: 1994 European ISSX Workshop Secretariat, PO Box CH-4002, Basel, Switzerland (Tel: +4161 697 8320; FAX: +41 61 697 3679).

Sixth Congress on Nephrotoxicity and Nephrocarcinogenicity The Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research will be hosting the 6th Congress on Nephrotoxicity and Nephrocarcinogenicity September 21-24, 1994, in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands. This Symposium will cover various aspects of nephrotoxicity, including mechanisms of chemically induced nephrotoxicity, immunologically induced nephrotoxicity, toxicity after ischemia, wound repair, and nephrocarcinogenesis. For more information please contact: Symposium Secretariat, Mrs. F. J. Velthorst, LACDR, P.O. Box 9502,2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands (Tel: +31 71 274 341; FAX: +31 71 274 277).

Sixth North American ISSX Meeting The International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX) will be holding their 6th North American Meeting October 23-27,1994, at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The meeting will begin with four half-day short courses on “Comparison of in Vitro and in Vivo Models for Studies of Drug Metabolism and Toxicity”; “Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry in the Study of Xenobiotics”; “Applications of Physiologically-Based Pharmacokinetic Models in Studies of Xenobiotic Metabolism”; and %DNA Expression Systems for Enzymes of Drug Metabolism: An Introduction to Methods and Applications”. Eleven symposium sessions are planned which will include the Second Rochester-Wurzburg Conference on Frontiers in Molecular Toxicology,
