Advanced Distillation Technologies: Design, Control and Applications Advanced Distillation Technologies: Design, Control and Applications. By Anton A. Kiss. Wiley: New York, 2013. 397 + xvi pp. £100.00. ISBN: 9781119993612.
T
his is a book aimed mostly at those interested in bulk chemicals rather than fine chemicals, and so most readers of Organic Process Research & Development (OPRD) will probably not find the topic so relevant. For chemists and engineers wishing to update their knowledge of distillation, the opening chapters (1. Basic Concepts in Distillation; 2. Design, Control and Economics of Distillation) will be of benefit. Much of the book is focused on Dividing Wall Columns (four chapters, over 150 pages) the use of which is important in process intensification. Further chapters include Heat Pump Assisted Distillation, Heat-Integrated Distillation Column, and Cyclic Distillation. The final chapter on Reactive Distillation will be of interest to those working on both bulk and fine chemicals, as well as in biodiesel manufacture. In conclusion, this book will be of most interest to chemical engineers working in the field of process intensification and distillation of petrochemicals and related materials.
