N u c l e a r Radiation Films

For use with Beckman DU Spectrophotometers

A new series of seven educational films to help introduce high school physics students to studies of radia tion has been produced by Cenco Edu cational Films, 1700 Irving Park Rd., Chicago 13, 111. The series, titled "Nuclear Radia tion," explains different types of radia tion, how each is detected, and how each is used. The seven films in this series, running from 15 to 28 minutes each, are all on 16 mm. sound film, available both in color and black and white. Also avail able are 35 mm. filmstrips. A 33Vs rpm record will accompany each film

Available for the first time, these low cost, Aloe, ultraviolet trans mitting, round cuvettes offer dis tinct advantages to all educational, industrial and other research lab oratories. Multiple problem of low cost, accurate U-V cuvettes now solved with these round, matched cuvettes. Proven in laboratory use over a year. No unusual etching noted when 4 normal acid or alkali concentrations were allowed to stand for as long as two hours. They compare most favorably in accuracy, to say nothing of cost, with conventional square " q u a r t z " cuvettes in the 235-340 m u range where 9 5 % of all U-V measure ments are made. (Not Recommended for use with Pholomultiplier.)

Journals Needed Abroad The Pan American Union Division of Science Development has issued a request for surplus scientific and tech nical journals. Journals for Latin America are being handled through co operation with the U. S. Book Ex change, Inc. in Washington. The U.S.B.E. is a nonprofit corpora tion which acts as a central clearing house for the exchange of books and journals between libraries all over the world. I t also receives contributions from individuals. The Pan American Union states that there is a steadily in creasing demand on the part of Latin American libraries for technical jour nals. Further details are available from the Division of Science Development, Pan American Union, Washington 6, D. C.

Recalibration of Standard Thermal Neutron Flux Value of the standard thermal neu tron flux maintained by the National Bureau of Standards has been changed as the result of a recent gold foil recali bration. The new value, 4203 neu trons/cm. 2 -sec, is a weighted average of the gold determination and a previ ous value based on the cross section of boron.
