Alcoa Aluminum actually increases in strength with no loss in ductility as tempera tures drop to minus 320°F and below. Alloy 5154-0, for example, improves 5 0 % in tensile strength, over 13% m yield strength and approximately 6 0 % in elongation.

No embrittlement! Lowest cost! ASME Code approved! In the subzero operating r a n g e . . . Specify Alcoa Aluminum equipment and piping The flow chart details a tonnage oxygen plant now in actual operation where process temperatures average below minus 300° F . Notice that virtually all of the equipment and process piping are ALCOA® Aluminum. There's a good reason: aluminum is the lowest cost metal able t o perform satisfactorily at low temperatures. At subzero temperatures, A S M E code approved aluminum alloys suitable for welded construction display improved yield a n d tensile strengths with n o reduction in ductility or resistance t o shock loading (see graphs). There is n o embrittlement! And in these operating temperature ranges, aluminum offers other valuable benefits . . . light weight
