Symposia Meeting

CHEMICAL SOCIETY for 1948.

Several additional symposia have been announced for the 113th national meeting of t h e Society to be held in Chicago April 19 to 23. The Division of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry will sponsor a symposium on galvanic cells and batter­ ies which i s being arranged by AYalter J. Hanier of the National Bureau of Stand­ ards, Washington, D . C. It is expected to occupy two full sessions. Glenn T. Seaborg of the University of California will be chairman of another symposium on the transuranium elements. H e will be assisted by J. C. Hindman and C. C. Katz, Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, 111. T h e division will also hold a sym­ posium on aerosols, and will cooperate with other divisions in the High Polymer Forum and an organometallic com­ pounds discussion. The Division of Biological Chemistry and t h e fermentation section of the Divi­ sion of Agricultural and Food Chemistry will cosponsor a symposium on antibiotics. Information regarding the requirements for abstracts and manuscripts of papers to be included in any of these programs may be found i n the preliminary program of the meeting, C&EN, Jan. 5, page 31.

Burr of the Monsanto Chemical Co., Charlotte, secretar3'-treasurer. Charles H. Stone of Char­ lotte was named to the Society's national council for a three-year term, with David F. Mason of the Southern Dyestuff Corp., Mount Holty, N . C , as an alternate. Laura T . Hall of Kendall Mills, Paw Creek, N . C , was chosen to serve as a member of the section's executive committee for three years.

Rieveschl, Jr.,

chairman-elect; Ralph L. Seger, Jr., secretary; F . Leslie Bates, treasurer; and Geo. Calingaert, E. L. Henderson, Thomas H. Vaughn, C. F. Graham, A. W. Bull, W. G. Fredrick, and Leon A. Sweet, coun­ cilors.

Cleveland Section Holds Elections Elections resulted in selection of G. M. Juredine as chairman a n d councilor and A. G. Bowers as chairman-elect of the Cleveland Section. Mr. Juredine, a tech­ nical coordinator at Harshaw Chemical Co., has long been associated actively with the section, having served as coun­ cilor, editor of Isotopias, and on various committees. Named vice chairman last year, Mr. Bowers has been lining up pro­ grams and will continue with that effort during the coming year. Associated with Gerson-Stewart Corp., h e has been active in section activities for a number of years. Re-elected secretary-treasurer was L . L. Winter of National Carbon Co. Elected councilors for three years were E. A. Arnold and H. P. Lankelma, and for two years, M. J. Bahnsen. Alternates elected for one year who will serve with the councilors on the local executive committee are O. Grummitt, N . A. Lange, F. Ε . Carlson, and G. R. Fernelius.
