BY JOHN H. BILLMAN AND EARLE. PARKER A new method' for synthesizing amino acids has now been extended to include the conversion of d.ihydric and trihydric amino alcohols to 8-hydroxy-a-amino acids. The amino alcohols were first allowed to react with benzoic acid in xylene to yield the corresponding oxazolines (I).
