With a production of 1400 tons-per-day, the Olin Mathieson Ammonia Plant, Lake Charles, Louisiana, is the world's largest. Its gigantic size makes possible minimum operating costs—it utilizes centrifugal compressors, low pressure synthesis and other modern design concepts. The entire project was a Bechtel responsibility— engineering, procurement, construction.
