An Improvised Inert Atmosphere Workstation Many collegelaboratories find that provision ofglove boxes, and sometimes glove bags, for large numbers of students is prohibitively expensive. Oxygensensitive procedures can be performed, however, using readily available laboratory apparatus. Suspend an 8-cm diam. clock glass by three pieces of tape to the rim of an inverted, glass funnel of the same diameter. Conned the funnel to a cylinder of argon (density = 1.78 g/L). In this way the heavierthan-air gas is forced to exit around the rim ofthe funnel, creatinga "curtain" of eas.
