New Office—Director of Publications of the Board of Directors of the American Chemical Society, a new office was created—the Director of Publications, ACS. It includes all journals publishing research papers, but not Chemical Abstracts. Thus, journals are no longer designated as basic or applied. While ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY has operated within the Applied Journals group, its editorial policy has always been directed toward publishing both fundamental and applied papers. Some academic readers have thought in the case of ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY, because of its affiliation with the applied group, that its editorial policy favored applied papers. With the announced change which is reflected in our masthead, any confusion or misunderstanding is now eliminated. Over the years the fundamental and applied papers have been about equal in number, and it is expected that this will be the ratio in the future. If the number of fundamental papers increases, this will be welcome and we have the space to publish them. Most readers and our Advisory Boards have felt that analytical chemists in their research and methods development read with profit both fundamental and applied papers in one journal.
