Analytical chemistry award nominations The ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry is soliciting nominations for the 1989 presentations of the following four awards administered by the division. Award in Chemical Instrumentation sponsored by Dow Chemical Co.: Nominees shall have advanced the field of chemical instrumentation through conceptualization, development, or innovative use of instrumentation for chemical measurements, or have published articles or books which have had an influential role in the use of chemical instrumentation. Award for Excellence in Teaching cosponsored by the division and Du Pont Co.: Nominees shall have influenced education in analytical chemistry through one or more of the following: authorship of an influential textbook, design and im-
plementation of a new teaching approach or innovative experiments or teaching equipment, stimulation of significant numbers of students to become analytical chemists, or publication of influential articles on the subject. Award in Spectrochemical Analysis sponsored by Perkin-Elmer Corp.: Nominees shall have advanced the field of spectrochemical analysis and optical spectrometry through development of unique instrumentation, elucidation of fundamental concepts and processes, or authorship of highly influential papers and/or books. Award in Electrochemistry sponsored by EG&G Princeton Applied Research: Nominees shall have advanced the field of electrochemical analysis through development of unique instrumentation, elucidation of fundamental concepts and processes, or authorship of highly influential papers and/or books. Nominees must be members of the division, but this requirement does not apply to nominators. Nominations for Baekeland award The ACS North Jersey Section is soliciting nominations for the 1989 Leo H e n d r i k Baekeland Award. Sponsored by Union Carbide Corp., the award consists of a gold medal and $1000 honorarium. It is presented biennially to recognize accomplishment in pure or industrial chemistry by an American chemist who will not be 40 before Jan. 1. Nominations should include a letter defining the candidate's achievements, a brief biography, and a list of the nominee's more important publications. Renomination of a previous candidate is encouraged, provided the age requirement is still met.
