Analytical Methods in Toxicology

A

ssessing the toxicity of exogenous and endogenous chemicals often requires the identification and quantification of these chemicals and their biotransformation products. Rigorous analytical measurements are also indispensible for understanding the mechanisms of toxicity. In recognition of the importance of analytical methods in chemical toxicology research, we compiled a virtual issue, Analytical Methods in Toxicology. Articles in this collection were chosen from relevant studies published in Chemical Research in Toxicology and Analytical Chemistry in 2013 and 2014. The topics of the articles covered in this virtual issue encompass recent advances in the development of modern analytical methods and the use of these methods for the measurement of toxic chemicals in the environment and biological systems, their metabolites, and the ensuing damage products/adducts of proteins and DNA. Also included are analytical approaches for the discovery of exposure biomarkers and for the assessment of the biological consequences of exposure. We hope that this thematic issue will promote future developments and applications of innovative analytical methods in chemical toxicology research.
