A synthetic chemical discussed a t the American Chemical Society meeting has anesthetic power approaching that of cocaine and a t the same time it causes a small rise in blood pressure. Its chemical name is benzoic ester of phenylpropanolamine, and it was made by Walter H. Hartung, James C. Munch, and Ernest B. Kester, of Baltimore, Md.-Science Service
