NEW CHEMICALS Blood Alcohol Colorimetric Test

A new reagent kit for measuring blood alcohol concentration is a rapid enzymatic procedure carried out at room temperature. Final measurements are made on a simple lab colorimeter. Maximum sensitivity in the procedure is in the region of 0.05 to 0.4% ethanol. Reagent is fully prepared and ready for instant reconstitution with water. Five tests per vial; box of 25 tests, $17.25. Worthington Biochemical Corp., Freehold, N. J. 07728. 201-462-3838 501 GC Stationary Phases

Several new stationary phases for high temperature gas chromatography applications are: Dexsil 300 GC for temperatures in excess of 500°C; SP400 silicone of the chlorophenyl methyl type (similar to DC-560) for use to at least 350°C, and OV-61, a phenyl substituted silicone (similar to XE-61) for use to 350°C. Supelco, Inc., Supelco Park, Bellefonte, Pa. 16823. 814-3592732 502 Fluoride Determination

A patented Palin fluoride reagent system can be used to determine the fluoride content of natural and treated water supplies. The two test reagents are in tablet form. The test can be performed in 15 min; results are read in a special axial reading comparator device which concentrates the color of reaction with a mirrored image of the light passed through the liquid column in the comparator tube. Range covered is 0.2 ppm to 1.6 ppm, with differences of 0.1 ppm easily detected. $39.95. LaMotte Chemical Products Co., Chestertown, Md. 21620. 301-778-3100 503 Fine Particle Standards

Particles, mostly spherical, are available in 120 size ranges from 0.1 to 150 microns in diameter and from more than a dozen kinds of materials. Particles are classified in narrow size ranges and analyzed for size characteristics. Data are available for most particles for mean diameter, size range, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and distribution of diameters. Included in the assortment of spherical particles are resins, glass beads, pollens, spores, metals, powders, minerals, oxides, and fluorescent materials. $5 to $10 per unit. Duke Standards Co., 445 Sherman Ave., Palo Alto, Calif. 94306. 415-328-2400 504

NEW Vacuum Emission Spectrometer Reads up to 50 Elements Simultaneously ! This compact, stable, V-70 Spectrometer is ideal for analyzing low and high alloy steels, iron, brasses, bronzes and high-purity copper. Wavelength range is 1600Â to 4400Â. Dispersion is 5.56Â/mm first order and 2.78Â/ mm second order. Also available is a totally new computer readout system that is unmatched in precision, accuracy and speed. INTRIGUING NEW CLOSURE--UNIQUE NEW VIALS 1 For many years we have looked forI ward to this announcement. Now we can provide a truly inert closure for bottles and vials that is convenient and practical. The unique new MININERT* valve provides a positive seal, Teflon* construction, instant access to contents and complete protection against air and atmospheric moisture during use! The cutaway views above show the sim ple operating principles: a push of the finger opens the needle channel, allow ing access to contents with a hypodermic needle through the silicone rubber sep tum. After needle is withdrawn, close valve; then not even the septum comes in contact with the contents, only teflon and glass can touch the material. The Mininert is useful for liquids, gases or solids to be treated with either. No tools are required for installation. The Hypo-Vial closures merely push in and the screw caps, of course, simply screw on. The valves are durable and reasonable in price. Mininert valves are available for a num ber of our vialst including the new 3 and 5 ml. REACTI-VIALS*, shown above, and may be ordered as follows: No. 10135 Mininert Valves SC-2D $45.60/12

Shown above are the new 3 and 5 ml. sizes of our unique and useful REAC TI-VIALS.* Like the smaller Reacti-Vials (0.3 and 1.0 ml.) the new sizes are made of borosilicate glass, the internal cone structure is similar and they are sup plied with perforated screw caps and teflon-rubber discs as closures. Other elastomer septa are available!- and we are particularly glad to be able to fit them with Mininert valves; thereby vial contents may be confined to a teflonglass environment but with instant, pro tected access via hypo syringe. Please order the new Reacti-Vials as follows;
