Many ICI United States products and processes are the result of deliberately anticipating market needs, and developing the means of meeting them. Our broad domestic marketing, research and manufacturing facilities, backed by the worldwide resources of our parent, Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd. all work toward that end. Here are some examples. Others are on the way.
Atlac® polyester resins solve corrosion problems
New Pirimor® pesticide meets potato crop need
In 1947, ICI-US-then known as Atlas Chemical Industries— developed ATLAC, the first truly corrosion-resistant polyester resin. Chemical producers needed it as an alternative to costly metals in the construction of tanks, scrubbers and other process equipment. Now, ATLAC is routinely used around the world. One of the most unusual applications—the massive lightning arrester that protected Apollo-Soyuz on its launch pad.
Destructive aphids sometimes become resistant to known pesticides, and create an urgent need for a new material that is easy on the environment and friendly bugs. Ten years ago our researchers at Jealott's Hill, England, began developing such a product. Born in England and extensively tested at our United States experimental farms, PIRIMOR Aphid Control Spray has just been granted EPA approval for use on potato crops.
