Applications of Transition Metal Catalysis in Drug Discovery and Development Applications of Transition Metal Catalysis in Drug Discovery and Development. Edited by Matthew L. Crawley, Barry M. Trost. Wiley: New York. 2012. 356 + xviii pp. £66.95, ISBN 978-0-470-63132-4.
T
he chapters in this multiauthor work are written by chemists from industry, mostly process chemists, and therefore, most of the book is written from a process chemistry viewpoint. After an opening introductory chapter on “Transition Metal Catalysis in the Pharmaceutical Industry”, the subjects covered are C−C Cross-Coupling, C−Heteroatom Cross-Coupling, Asymmetric Cross-Coupling, Metathesis, Synthesis of 5- and 6Membered Heterocycles, Oxidative Catalysis, and finally, Industrial Asymmetric Hydrogenation. All chapters are well-written and comprehensive with many examples from Org. Process Res. Dev. The book is highly recommended to all process chemists.
