Lab-Line Instruments, Inc., has five manufacturing divisions : Chicago Surgical & Electrical Co. (clinical and hospital division) ; Hudson Bay Co. (environmental division) ; Lourdes Instrument Corp. The parent company and its five divisions manufacture lab oratory instruments and apparatus for hospitals, industry, and schools. The National Bureau of Stand ards, Washington 25, D. C , reports the determination of precise reference wave lengths to be used for calibration in infrared analysis. Laboratory measure ments have been made of the emission spectra of hot gases. These results will be useful in determining the average temperature and partial pressure of atmospheric constituents. Another aspect of the Bureau's spec troscopic research program is the study of emittance properties of solids which must be known in order to plan and design temperature control systems for satellites and space probes. Presently, low temperature spectroscopic studies are carried out on ionic molecules in crystal lattices. The National Bureau of Standards, Washington 25, D. C , calibrates neu tron sources for science and industry, on a fee basis, by comparison of the emission rate of the unknown source with that of its standards. For high activity sources the national neutron standard, NBS-1, is used and for low activity there are five plutonium-béryllium standard sources. Radiation Instrument Development Laboratory, Inc., Chicago, and Northlake, 111., has moved to 4501 W. North Ave., Melrose Park, 111.
