This seventh volume of the series on analytical chemistry presents analytical methods not covered in the previous volumes. Specifically, they are thermal methods in analytical chemistry and substoichiometric analytical methods. T h e first chapter on thermal methods written by C. Duval (France) occupies more than two-thirds of the space. In addition to a section on general introduction to thermal methods, the topics discussed in five sections are thermogravimetry, applications of the thermobalance, precautions to be taken in the use of thermobalance, differential thermal analysis, and simultaneous thermal techniques. T h e second chapter coauthored by J. Rûzicka (Denmark) and J. Stary (Czechoslova-

kia) concentrates on the discussion of various techniques available to substoichiometric analysis, such as neutron activation analysis, isotope dilution analysis, etc. This chapter also includes a section (more t h a n 50 pages) on practical application of the various methods presented.

Advances in Magnetic Resonance, Supplement 1: High Resolution NMR in Solids. Ulrich Haeberlen. xiii + 1 9 0 pages. Academic Press, Inc., 111 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y. 10003. 1976. $21

T h e series editor, J o h n S. Waugh, notes in the "Foreword" t h a t the contents of this monograph, which was originally intended as a chapter on high-resolution N M R in solids, attest to the growth in the field over the past several years. Following the first two short chapters of introduction and theoretical t r e a t m e n t of nuclear spin Hamiltonian, Chapters III and IV (about 70 pages) are devoted to a discussion of the theoretical aspects of the determination of nuclear magnetic shielding tensors. An in-depth treatment of multiple-pulse techniques is presented in the remaining two chapters of approximately equal length. Since this particular area happens to
