from ACINTOL- FA-2 TALL OIL FATTY ACID PRODUCES BETTER SHORT OIL ALKYDS FOR INDUSTRIAL BAKED GOODS AT LOWER COST In short oil alkyds for in­ dustrial baked coatings, ACINTOL® FA-2 tall oil fatty acid produces vehicles with Gardner 1963 colors of 2 (60% NV) at a lower cost than soy fatty acids producing ve­ hicles at Gardner colors of 4 to 6. Soy based short oil alkyds also fall short on overbake resistance. Pigmented alkyds based on ACINTOL tall oil fatty acids exhibit a yel­ lowness factor of —.0048 after 30 minutes overbake at 350°F while equivalent soy based alkyds exhibit a yellow­ ness factor of .0177. ACINTOL® TALL OIL FATTY ACIDS ECONOMICALLY SATISFY OIL NEEDS IN SPECIALTY ALKYDS. ACINTOL tall oil fatty acids make excellent vinylated alkyds and silicone alkyds. For example, we have recently made a styrenated alkyd at 60% N.V. in xylene with a viscosity of Τ (G. H. Tubes) and a Gardner (1963) color of 2, as well as a vinyltoluenated alkyd with a viscosity of Y (G.H.) in VM&P naphtha at 60% N.V. Both dry tack free within 10 minutes after appli­ cation at 1.5 mils wet film thickness.
