An Aspirator Trap Bottle Assembly A convenient aspirator trap bottle for the undergraduate organic lshoratory is a tape-wrapped, quart milk hottle placed in the hollow center of a 25Q,7% in. square, concrete building hlock. The latter, weighing about 15 pounds, does not tip over and replaces a ring stand for keeping the bottle upright. The concrete hlock also affords some protection in case of implosion, though none bas occurred in three years of use. The previously employed trap assembly, a 500-ml filter flask clamped to a ring stand, was continually being disassembled by students and the components appropriated for other operations. Tbemilk bottle is fitted with a #6, two or three hole, soft rubber stopper (VWR #56384-064) into which are inserted polyethylene right angle bends (Bel-Art Products, #H-21877). One of the bends is attached to a Nalge aspirator by "/,6" 0.d. pressure tubing WWR #56431-040). This model aspirator has a polyethylene hose connector that tends to become detached and is easily lost. The hose connector can be eliminated, since the pressure tubing described here fits snugly into the opening a t the side of the aspirator. Since a filled bottle may be indistinguishable from an empty one, the trap should be examined periodically. Stale Ilnivcrrity College at Ruffalo 1300 Elmwuod Avenue
