Curtis, vice president of t h e M o n s a n t o Chemical Co., will r e ­ peat the address on "Values" which he delivered before t h e Society of Chemical Industry in .England a s its Jubilee Memor­ ial L e c t u r e . L . H . L a m p i t t , president of the S C I , a n d Eric K . Rideal, immediate past president of the SCI a n d head of t h e Royal Institution, a r e planning t o a t t e n d the meeting. M r . L a m p i t t , director of research for Messrs. Lyon & Co., L t d . , and noted for his work in organizing chemical associations a n d encouraging publication of new chemical research a n d Its application, will deliver a short address. A fall meeting of the Technical Associa­ tion of t h e P u l p arid Paper Industry will be held a t t h e I n s t i t u t e of Paper Chemis­ try in Apple ton, Wis., on Sept. 3, 4, and 5. T h e meeting, which is under the sponsor­ ship of the·fundamental research commit­ tee of t h e association, will have for it* theme " T h e N a t u r e of t h e Chemical Com­ ponents of W o o d / ' Two simultaneous ses­ sions will b e held dealing with cellulose, the hemicelluloses, and t h e gums and mu­ cilages on t h e one hand a n d with lignin, the tannins, wood coloring matters, and resins a n d resinols on t h e other. Each specific field will b e given approximately one d a y o n the program. T h e various fields will b e organized into panels. Each panel and i t s audience will form a commit­ tee of t h e whole t o draft a statement point­ ing o u t w h a t it considers to b e the impor-
