NAC to Hear Address on Contributions of Pesticides The Assistant Surgeon General, U. S. Public Health Service, David E. Price, is scheduled to address the opening session of the fall meeting of the National Agricultural Chemicals Association. Dr. Price will discuss the contributions of pesticides to health before the 3-day meeting of the association a t Spring Lake, N. J., Sept. 8 to 10. I n addition to Dr. Price the first day’s session features an opening address by the S A C president, Paul Mayfield, general manager of naval stores department, Hercules Powder Co. ; the secretary of the association, Lea S. Hitchner, will report on activities of the association for the year; Frank H. Jeter will discuss the public relations aspects of the pesticides industry. Dr. Jeter is information director for North Carolina State college of agriculture. A panel discussion of the recent Miller pesticide residue amendment to the Federal Food and Drug Act will be the highlight of the meeting on Thursday Sept. 9.
Information for the industry will be the theme for the Friday session. The use of antibiotics in agriculture will be presented by Henry Welch of the FDA and John C. Dunegan, USDA. A discussion of the industry’s principal customer, the farmer, and what the pesticides manufacturers should know about him, will be presented by E. H. Fallon of a farmer’s cooperative. A reception for members and guests on LYednesday evening, a golf tournament on Thursday, and the annual banquet Friday evening are scheduled social activities for the meeting.
Anhydrous Ammonia Conference Scheduled for Aug. 18 A one day farm symposium on anhydrous ammonia is expected to attract more than a thousand soil scientists, farmers, and businessmen to the University of Wisconsin, Aug. 18. The meeting, which will have headquarters in the Edgewater Hotel, is sponsored jointly by the soils department of the university and the Great Lakes Region of the Agricultural Ammonia Institute.
