Award-Winning Organometallic Chemistry:1 The 2013 Yao Zeng Award in Organometallic Chemistry n this issue, we highlight for the first time chemistry that has been recognized by an award from the Chinese Chemical Society.2 Although the People’s Republic of China is home to arguably some of the finest organometallic chemistry being done today, there has not been a longstanding tradition of prizes or awards for scientific excellence. Happily, that is starting to change,3 as evidenced by the establishment of the Yao Zeng Award in Organometallic Chemistry in 2003.4 This honor is presented biannually to two scientists working in China in recognition of sustained, outstanding contributions to organometallic chemistry. One of the year 2012 recipients of this prize is Prof. Guochen Jia of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Jia is a familiar figure to readers of Organometallics, having served on the Editorial Advisory Board (2010−2012) and published some 80 papers in the journal on diverse topics, including novel carbyne and metallabenzyne complexes. A brief biographical sketch can be found in the award article that begins on the following page. The Yao Zhang Award consists of a Chinese language plaque and a cash honorarium and was conferred in a ceremony at Peking University on October 22, 2012. A photograph from the festivities is given in Figure 1. Guochen, we are inspired not only by your carefully executed scientific studies but also by your efforts in building up the field of organometallic chemistryfrom the standpoints of both teaching and researchin a country that is seeing such rapid growth in R&D and scientific infrastructure. We wish you and your coworkers the best of luck in your future endeavors.
