Instrument Society of America, 400 Stanwix Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222. The first comprehensive confer ence on the environmental aspects of plastics will be held under the auspices of the Society of Plastics Engineers in Cherry Hill, N. J. on October 27-28. Biodegradability, mist abatement, water pollution, polymer waste reclamation, and the design of disposable products are among the ecological topics to be discussed. Solid waste disposal will be the subject of a panel program. For more information, write or call the Society of Plastics Engineers, 656 W. Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, Conn. 06830. The Education Division of Sadtler Research Laboratories has an nounced an Air Pollution Instru mentation Institute to be held in Philadelphia during the week of February 15-19, 1971. The Insti tute will be presented in association with the Syracuse University Re search Corp., whose Life Sciences Division has been active in the fields of air and water pollution research since 1966. A 4%-day short course dealing with the instrumentation and techniques for monitoring pollu tants in the air will be featured. For more information, contact Wil liam W. Simons, Sadtler Research Laboratories, Inc., 3316 Spring Gar den Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104. "Living in Our Environment" will be the theme of the Institute of En vironmental Sciences at its 17th Annual Technical Meeting and Equipment Exposition, April 26-30, 1971, in Los Angeles. The program will offer methods of applying the engineering knowledge developed in the environmental disciplines over the years to solve present earth science problems. Noise, vibration, air pollution, other environments and their effects on man, and recent advances in aerospace and military environmental sciences will also be discussed. For more information, write the Institute of Environmen tal Sciences, 940 East Northwest Highway, Mt. Prospect, 111. 60056. Alan J. Senzel

Hamamatsu Quality in Hollow Cathode Lamps Researchers in atomic analysis can now rely upon the high-wavelength purity and stability of Hamamatsu Hollow Cathode Lamps. In the Model L233, for instance, a special base metal in the cathode reduces the "clean-up phenomenon" of the Neon filler gas to insignificance. Background level is extremely low, and an excellent, flat curve of high accuracy is producible with comparatively low current. When your research in atomic absorption spectroscopy calls for a light source that is completely dependable, specify Hamamatsu. All popular, widely-used elements are available. Off-the-shelf delivery. Exclusive retail distributorship in the U.S.A. Write or call Dept. HC-AC 10.
