Thanks to American enterprise, our country no longer needs to depend on the natural rubber tree for making fine rubber products. Capacity to pro­ duce butadiene, a key ingredient in synthetic rubber, is being increased substantially. Petro-Tex Chemical Corporation, of Houston, is a leading producer of buta­ diene. An expansion program, nearing completion, increases capacity by more than 50 percent, reduces operating costs a n d utilizes raw materials more efficiently. Bechtel is responsible for engineering a n d construction. Tennessee Gas Transmission Company and Food Machinery a n d Chemical Corporation, joint owners of Petro-Tex, are also Bechtel clients.
