Biographical Sketch V. K. Valev became a research associate at the University of Cambridge in October 2012. Born in Bulgaria, he grew up in France and graduated in the United Kingdom. In 2006, he was awarded a Ph.D. from the Radboud University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, for his work on magnetization-induced second harmonic generation at the interfaces of magnetic thin films. Subsequently, as a postdoctoral fellow at KU Leuven University in Belgium he extended his expertise in second harmonic generation to organic molecular films and to nanostructured metal surfaces.
